gnome-desktop-environment software package provides The GNOME Desktop Environment - transitional package, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment
gnome-desktop-environment is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gnome-desktop-environment package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gnome-desktop-environment *
You will get with gnome-desktop-environment package name, version, architecture and description in a table
